Pilot project – Recycling corners

The FOSDA of Peloponnese, through an open international bid, will provide fifty-eight (58) Recycling Multi-centres for sorting at source of the waste produced at its members – local and regional authorities.

These Multi-centres will be equipped with a material processing system (compression of plastic and metal materials and breakage of glass materials) with the aim of minimising the volume of materials to be recycled separately at the source, in order to reduce the energy and environmental impact of the recyclable materials transportation.

Each Recycling Multi-centre is used for separate sorting at source of plastic, metal, glass and paper materials.

Plastic, metal and glass materials are recycled by using high tech equipment and reward incentives are provided per material. Paper materials are sorted in a separate bin.

Furthermore, since most municipal waste (number and volume-wise) is made up of plastic and metal materials, it is faster and more convenient for citizens to collect and recycle these materials together, by emptying the relevant bags.

Thanks to the Recycling Multi-centres, the quantitative goals of material recycling in the Municipality will considerably increase, so as to reach the quantitative goals of material recycling foreseen at the ESDA and the Local Waste Management Plan.
